Subject: [www-mling,00014] error appending font path
Message-Id: <Pine.3.07.9404250837.A2670-c100000@wucs1>

hi,

i am using X-terminal to connect to a Sparc running Openwin. i get error
when
i try to append a directory to the font path. i already read the FAQ#36 but
it doesn't help.

i did mkfontdir to create the fonts.dir file.

[wucs1] /tmp/fonts > ls
fonts.dir taipei15.bdf.Z taipei24.bdf.Z

then i did xset +fp to add the font directory.
the font directory is /tmp/fonts/

[wucs1] /tmp/fonts > xset +fp /tmp/fonts/
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 51 (X_SetFontPath)
Minor opcode of failed request: 0
Resource id in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 4
Current serial number in output stream: 6

that's the error i got, in the FAQ, it says:

-- Is the font directory you're specifying readable from the SERVER's file
system? Remember, it's the server, not the client, which interprets your
font directory. Trouble in this area is especially likely when you issue
an xset command with shell metacharacters in it (e.g. "xset +fp ~/myfonts")
and the server is an X terminal or managed by xdm.
                        ^^^^^^^^^^
the FAQ mentions that there will be a problem if i use Xterminal but it
doesn't say how to solve it or if it is possible to do that on an xterminal.

i also tried running that on the workstation itself so in that case, both the
client and the server should be the workstation, but i still got that same
error.

can someone please tell me what i should do? can i do that on an Xterminal?

thanks in advance!
