    前世 :inoue@aa.cs.keio.ac.jp :-)

	Solaris 2.X
	Super User
	LAN/Internet
	Information System

NCSA Mosaic for the Macintosh (and Power Macintosh)
- 2.0.0 Alpha1 Release- READ ME

NCSA Mosaic is COPYRIGHTED by the University of Illinois.
See copyright notice in the ftp directory and on-line.

What is NCSA Mosaic
--------------------------------------------------------------------
NCSA Mosaic is a distributed hypermedia browser designed for
information discovery and retrieval. It provides a unified interface
to the diverse protocols, data formats and information archives
used on the Internet.

Basic Information
--------------------------------------------------------------------

To run this tool you will need the following; System 7.0 (or higher),
MacTCP (2.0.4 is preferred - 1.x has bugs that will result in
memory problems) and a network connection (Apple Remote
Access can be used through a modem for the network connection).

NCSA Mosaic should function on all types of Macintoshes,
including the SE and the Classic. A native Power Macintosh
version is also available.

NCSA Mosaic is available by anonymous ftp from
ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu

(141.142.20.50) in directory /Mac/Mosaic as
NCSAMosaicMac.200A1.sit.hqx 68K Macintosh version
NCSAMosaicMac.200A1.PM.sit.hqx Power Macintosh version

These have been stuffed using Stuffit 1.5 and has been encoded
using Binhex 4.0. You can un-binhex and un-stuff the
file using any utility which handles these compression schemes. If
you don $B(J $Bhave$Bon $Btr $BStuffitExpande 燿鑛 $Bnicely$Bhandle $Bbothschemes)located in the Mac/Mosaic directory. In order to un-binhex
the expander follow the directions in Binhex.README located in
Mac/Utilities.

Also read the QuickStart Installation Guide, QuickStart.Txt, in
the Mac/Mosaic directory.

-- Improved Error Reporting
-- Improved Pagination
-- User Configurable Color Background (default color is now gray)
-- New Hotlist Interface (access from the Navigate menu)

the option to load to disk

FILE MENU
Open URL: Mosaic now remembers last URL entered into the
Open URL window

OPTIONS MENU

-- Use This URL for Home: Allows you to select the current
document to be used as the new home page. This is automatically
saved in the preferences file.
-- Use Header Mode: This feature allows you to get additional
information about a link without causing you to connect to that link.
The information, which includes: file type, modification date, file
size, and server information appears in a separate window.
There are two ways to access it: 1) Through the Options Menu, turn
Use Header Mode on, then click on a link to get the information. 2)
When Use Header Mode is off, command-click on a link to access
the same information.

PREFERENCES

-- The preferences window has been completely rewritten to make it
easier to modify.
-- The preferences dialog has been divided into a series of functional
categories. These include: Miscellaneous, Links, Directories, Gates.
(more to be added later)

between sessions. The user can determine the number of entries that
may be included in the Global History, or they may choose to
remove files from the Global History that are older than 'n' days.
-- Link Colors: Visited link colors fade to the unvisited link colors
as they mature. This may be turned on or off as desired.
-- Set Hotlist Directory: Set this to a folder that contains your
hotlists and all hotlists will be readily available in the new hotlist
window. No need to load each one individually!
-- FIREWALL: You can set Mosaic to use CERN Proxy Service
or SOCKS service!

-- Styles: The styles window has been completely rewritten to make
it easier to use.

SPECIAL FEATURES
------------------------------

upon start up.
-- There are some problems with redrawing and highlighting related
to the use of the colored background
-- Selection: text is selected but it doesn't appear so on screen
-- Copy is not working properly
-- Printing documents with color/grayscale option when using a
colored background causes the document to print with a partial
grayscale background
-- FTP and Gopher icon backgrounds are not displayed properly
-- Artifacts (redraw problems) when scrolling
-- Custom menus are not implemented - Hotlists do not appear in
menus (use hotlist dialog instead)
-- Authentication is broken-- you must do it right the first time. If

-- Import & export of hotlists is not implemented
-- FORMS - works, but there are occasional documents that will
cause problems
-- Search box occasionally disappears
-- Captions on tables is not implemented
