これ、私も思っていました。Mosaicに限らず、情報提供ツールは
使い方の本はいくらでも出ているのに、サーバーに関する本は
見たことがありません。
資料はあるのはあるのですが、ネットワーク上にファイルとし
て存在してたりそれ自体がWWW上で見るようになっているので
インターネットにアクセスの手段を持たない人や、ユーザーと
してWWWや他の情報ツールについてある程度の知識がない人には
敷居が高いと思います。
そこでWWWに関しては自分で書いてみました。次のメールで投稿します。
そんなに詳しくない自分が書いたものを、専門の詳しい方々に見せるの
は恥ずかしいのですが。もし、間違いなどありましたら指摘していただ
けると嬉しいです。
いまだに、WWFSとかproxyを使ってキャッシュできるhtpdのことがよく
わかりません。詳しい方おられたら、具体的な設定方法とか教えて
いただけると嬉しいです。
なお、書いたのはずいぶん前ですのでバージョンなどに古いものを
書いているかもしれませんが、御了承ください。

三浦さん、菊池さん
情報をありがとうございました。
さっそく、ftp.ncsa.uiuc.eduからhttpd1.3を落としてきて、コンパイルして
みました。
どうもディフォルトのMakefile(For SUN)ではコンパイルできず、
Makefileとhttpd.h次の行を付け足したらコンパイルできました。
ただし、gccは2.5.8です。

httpd server が Mac ではなく Newsということを前提でお話します。
1.httpd(最新はv 1.3) と httpd_docs(こちらも最新はv1.3用) を
ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu などから入手する
2.httpd_docs を適当な Directory で展開します。
3.Mosaic の File / Open Local ... にて、httpd_1.x/docs/Overview.htmlを
見ながら httpd のセットアップをする

マックで日本語が使えるMosaicは、EUCコード専用のものとSJISコード専用のもの
の２種類しかなかったはずです。JIS対応のものは残念ながら現在のところないと
思います。

Like you suggested, I tried opening up Kochi U. using the extension, and I
could read it fine!
I also read the information at NTT about encoding schemes. As you
suggested, I am able to read EUC-JP, but I cannot read ISO-2022-JP or
Shift-JIS. I read the directions, but I am pretty confused about how I can
perform a patch to my Mosaic 1.0.3 EUC for Macintosh so that I can handle
the ISO-2022-JP encoding. Can you give me any help?

印刷物をスキャナー替わりのFAX で画像ファイルにしてしまうという荒技（？）
でサーバーの情報を増やそうと企んでるもので。（それでも時間が足りない）

というわけで、その大前さんにも Cc: しますが、がんセンターは朝日の

先日の服部さんによるInternetの連載は５回しかなくて終了しましたが、
（５回しか連載する許可がでなくて、書き切れないとおっしゃっていました）
本日の朝日新聞朝刊で、
「インターネット広がる −国境超え地球規模で情報交換」
という記事が単発で出ています。
先日のNHKテレビで放映された「ダイイチ」の紹介や、
大和総研が社内ネットを秋にInternet接続予定とのことも書いてあります。
NHKでも紹介された、先日のビント サーフ（インターネット協会会長）の
来日が、きっかけになっているようです。
なお、今回の記事をかかれた大前純一さん（ohmae@asahi-np.co.jp）は、
記事に関する感想・情報を募集していますので、Cc:してありますが、
newsgroupは読んでおられるのでしょうか？
