EFF's (Extended) Guide to the Internet...

The HTML document you may now read was produced from the Texinfo edition of a book entitled EFF's (Extended) Guide to the Internet (formerly known as "Big Dummy's Guide to the Internet") written by Adam Gaffin for a joint project of Apple Computer, Inc. and The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).

The European default server of this guide is ftp.Germany.EU.net, the directory is pub/books/eff-guide. Look into the extended-guide subdirectory to find the PostScript, TeX DVI, GNU Info, HTML and ASCII versions and the Texinfo sources of this document. In the US, please get your own copy from ftp.EFF.org, the directory is /pub/Net_info/EFF_Net_Guide/Other_versions/ (edition 2.3).

There are of course some more repositories, that you might try first to get yourself a personal version of this guide, e.g. from the German sites, or other European sites, and even some on the rest of the Globe.

The HTML version you may now read is split up in more than 300 pieces, so you won't load the complete document at once. The recommended way for reading is to browse through the table of contents and read interesting chapters. If you find the document worth reading (I'm sure that you will), please download the compressed version via ftp (see above) and read it on your local system.
