Technically supporting Chunghwa Telecom Operation in Network Planning,Transmission Technologies, Information Technologies, OutsidePlant/Access Technologies, ATM and Broadband Switching Technologies,Applied Research including Speech and PictureProcessing, EncryptionTechnologies, Opto-electronics. Telecommunication OperationSupport Systems are the major development projects that occupy morethat 80% of resource.This Lab has an annual budget of about 0.1billion US$, and has 1200 researchers among them 98 has Ph.D. degreesboth fromlocal universities and from abroard. The recentachievement is the deployment of a Government Certificate Authority(GCA) for Internet and the on-going challenging mission is to build a free way automatic toll collection system using infra-red andcontactless IC card technologies. We hope to have some technicalcooperation with the foreign vendors for the above two technologies.Our achievement in Opto-electronic field cannot be neglected. Wesuccessfully implemented laser diode and arraydetectors for the USFermi Lab. in participation the project for Top Quark discovery.
