Japan's Kii Peninsula
(osaka,osaka,japan)
The three prefectures of Mie, Nara and Wakayama on the Kii Peninsular are filled with historical attractions. Here you can visit Nara, where the elegant Tenpyo culture flourished in the 8th century; Asuka, birthplace of Japan's first system of government; the three famous shrines of Kumano which were a site of pilgrimage for the imperial family and the common people; Kan no Kurayama, which was mentioned in the ;Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan); the Hana no Iwaya Shrine; and the Grand Shrines of Ise with their 2,000 years of history. Each prefecture reflects its own fascinating past. The routes of pilgrimage and traditional paths are lined with mysterious buildings and remains, and the romance and mystery of the ancient past continues to fascinate people to this very day.
